Yoga in Egypt

Traveller's notes
- On the outskirts of Sinai's Dahab, Barbara Gordon runs a yoga studio at the Blue Moon Hotel. She offers yoga diving programmes. With Dahab's underwater beauty, you'll be practising yoga while coming as close to nature as you can. Packages from and back to London include flight tickets, a week's stay at the hotel in a double room B&B, desert meditation, six yoga classes, and diving trips, with all equipment available for £545. A single room supplement is for £50. If you opt for yoga only, a package includes flights from and back to London, a week's stay in a double room at the Blue Moon B&B and 11 yoga classes, in total for £325. Single room supplement is for £50. For more information, call +2010 578 1380, or visit the website www.sunrayoga.com.
- In Cairo, there are also cultural centres that offer yoga classes with highly experienced yogis. The Indian Cultural Centre, affiliated to the Indian Embassy in Cairo, offers a 26-class course for LE150, tel +202 392 5243. The Yoga Art Studio Egypt (+2012 222 9016) affiliated to the Russian Cultural Centre, offers hatha, ashtanga, raja, mantra and karma classes in addition to teaching yoga to children as well as yoga dance classes and massages.
- If you want to further delve into the theoretical side of yoga, Swami Vishnudevananda's The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga is recommended. However if you would like to develop your spirit and mind, read The Poner of Now by Eckhart Tolle, Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Teffers and Suzie Orbach's Fat is a Feminist Issue.
- TEN Tours will organise, 14-18 September, another yoga-related festival. The International Thai Yoga, Massage and Yoga Dance Festival will take place on the Red Sea focussing on the benefits of natural healing. For more information, contact TEN Tours at +202 266 1839.
- For transportation, El-Gouna operates its own airport to receive charter flights and two direct weekly flights from Cairo by Orascom Aviation. El-Gouna buses will also take you from Abdel-Moneim Riad Square on different schedules.
